I had a hard time with this book. It popped up on my Amazon recommended list. Having read other DD books I thought that this would be the same but with a military twist. Let me say: It is NOT!!!!! DD is based on a cornerstone of trust and respect and the fact that BOTH parties want to be in the relationship. That was NOT the case with this book!!! Zora is kidnapped off the porch or her apartment building when she is one small step from being black out drunk. Savage lied to her with in the first few moments (or maybe it is his partner that lied) and tells her that they met in a bar a few weeks ago and that she is trying to get into the wrong building. They offer to drive her to the correct building a few blocks and gently ease her into their vehicle. That was the last time she is treated gently! She is taken to a compound and forced to train to deactivate a security system in Bulgaria. Savage spanks her brutally over and over when she resists any orders he gives her. She is tossed in a small cell and ignored for days at a time. Being only fed food and given water. What he does to her is criminal abuse! He hits her with his hand, tawse, slipper, cane and finally a belt. That is what causes her to snap. She hits him with her fist (breaking his nose) and kicks him in the balls (you go girl!). In this scene Savage breaks the #1 rule of DD which is NEVER discipline (if that is what this could be called) in anger. He breaks rule #1 many times, spanking while being angry.
In this book, Zora is a prisoner and Savage is her jailer. She had zero rights. If a real corrections officer were to do that to the most depraved serial killer under his watch that guard would be fired, stripped of any retirement/pension and the facility sued after the inmate (or his family) hired a high profile lawyer!!! And these are the most dangerous criminal in our society. They still have rights. What crime did Zora commit? Getting drunk and having the audacity to walk home? How dare she!
Zora was taken prisoner, stripped of her old life and spanked for any little breach of conduct and for NO PAY. One can assume that Savage and his team where drawing a paycheck for THEIR services. Savage also messes with her mind by having sex with her at about the 52% (if I remember correctly) point in the book. Waking up to the fact that "you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar."
IMO this book does the DD genre a disservice. Savage is a paid soldier and forces Zora to comply with extreme spankings. (Zora and I call them beatings) It paints Disciplinarians as a brutes. Just as the movie Secretary paints submissives as mentally unstable, weak women who cut themselves.
That said, i LIKED the book (not loved) as it had a lot of adventure in it. I found the fact that Zora was a super intelligent math wiz who earned a college degree at age 13 fascinating. This story would have been good written as a vanilla spy novel. I will most likely buy the other two books just to see how the story plays out. It is clear that by the end of this book that Savage has real feelings for Zora.
Maybe the phrase (Military Discipline) after the title was a clue that this was some kind of sub-genre of DD. I thought it was the title of this particular series as the author seems to have written quite a few books. So in closing, read the reviews and have the free sample of the book sent to your Kindle before you buy to see if this book is for you. It is NOT the loving DD relationship kind of book that other top authors of this genre write! (and perhaps this authors other books)

Savage Recruit Military Discipline Book 1 edition by Loki Renard Romance eBooks Reviews
This genre is not for me - I find a play pat sexy but this whole domestic discipline thing doesn't blow my hair back. Fans of the genre may like it.
I'd give it more stars if I could. A very enjoyable read. Clever, tender, hard, HOT and very very funny.
Enjoyed this book and will probably keep it on my kindle for the time being to sample again. Did find it a bit confusing in the beginning as to who was who
This book hooked me from the first paragraph. I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked it up. What I got was beyond brilliant. It's a great story, it's erotic, it's funny, I couldn't stop reading. I usually don't start reading serial books until the author is finished and I wanted more when I was done. But I still feel like I got a complete story. That rarely happens.
I anxiously await the next installment.
Ms Renard, please write fast!
Because I can not wait for the continuation of this romance. just thinking about the trouble Zora could get into next makes me smile. This setting reminded me of the late 80's "Le Femme Nakita series minus the spanking. Fresh new perspective on the discipline genre. I enjoyed it immensely!
I really liked all three of the Savage books. What makes these books great is the complicated personality of the h which include boredom, high intellect, and impulsiveness. Her emotional intelligence cannot begin to compete with her other abilities which make her valuable to the military. Without greater emotional intelligence, she could become a liability. These traits of hers combined with Savage's discovery of her causes her much trouble.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book - had me hooked from the start. Savage abducts Zora, who is a wizard at calculating mathematical problems, to assist in a military operation to reduce a nuclear threat. She is feisty, bratty, childish and completely untamed. In order to try and protect her and his team he disciplines her constantly to make her an obedient member of his outfit - to little avail. The book finished rather abruptly and I would like to know how the relationship proceeded after she escapes the compound. I thought this was a really good book and I'll be looking for more from this author.
